The aim of the school is to provide basic understanding of the integration of experimental data with ab-initio, Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo calculations using models developed within Computational Thermodynamics (Calphad). A central part of the school will be the practical assessment of model parameters of ternary systems and the integration of this in a multicomponent thermodynamic database. Such databases are necessary for simulations of phase transformations and microstructures and consequently properties of real materials The central theme of the teaching is computational thermo-dynamics and the school will teach practical assessment of ternary systems based on thermodynamic and kinetic mod-els. The use of different kinds of theoretical and experi-mental data will be explained and it will be shown how theoretical calculations can be combined with experimental data by thermodynamic models and integrated in multi-component databases applicable to modern materials.
